Camping pot hanger modification

Image
This is a simple camping pot hanger modification I made to a new pot I recently acquired. The pot came with a sturdy metal hanger but I prefer to use flexible steel cables as they are flexible, making it easy to be tucked away and tidy.  I always prefer a big pot as it cooks and boils more. It is also useful to keep fragile items like eggs inside. This pot hanger modification is necessary to make the entire setup easier to pack inside the rucksack.

Mora knives in Malaysia

Image
Mora Knives at Gadgetworld2u at Subang Square My previous post on Bushcraft in Malaysia reminded me of Mora knives and parangs. This post will be about Mora knives. It is one of the most iconic knives in the camping and bushcraft world. They are cheap, practical and no nonsense tools you can rely on. They get the job done. I had my first Mora when I was a small kid growing up in Kedah. I remember one of the small shops was having a closing down sale. I begged and begged mom for money. Came back with a blue handle Mora knive, a Hudson bay hatchet and a Coleman ice box. Over the years, the first two got misplaced. Thankfully today, we can get them locally (not the Hudson though).  Note : The following writing is based on what I know and may not represent the entirety and accuracy of what/ how/ when things actually happen.

Bushcraft in Malaysia

Image
Bushcraft in Malaysia...experts and bluffs! I first heard of Bushcraft in Malaysia during my active years in Malaysian Nature Society (MNS). Pak Abu was a committee member and actively organizing trips and events. From day hikes to jungle survival courses, Pak Abu had a keen eye and interest on things 'Bushcraft'. Back then, videos of Ray Mear's bushcraft helped fuel all the bushcraft rage.

OGM- Outdoor Gear Malaysia

Image
Then came OGM- Outdoor Gear Malaysia What actually started OGM- Outdoor Gear Malaysia was meeting a group of people who are really passionate about knives. Back then, there was a forum known as Malaysian Knife Forum (MKF). Boy...MKF was full of interesting characters. It was this forum that I got to meet some really good friends, business partners and also discovered that obnoxious people really do exist. Ask anyone who has been in MKF who is the most hated person in the group and I am confident 8 out of 10 would give you the same name, Luckily, OGM had nothing to do with him.

Sepuh Crafts- Malaysian made parangs & fire pistons

Image
The handmade wooden fire piston was an integral part of Sepuh Crafts There were 2 places I know that had traditional fire pistons in Malaysia. One with the indigenous Semelais of Lake Bera and the other with the indigenous people down in Johor, somewhere near Endau Rompin National Park (if I remember correctly). I visited the later with Pak Abu a very long time ago. Pak Abu was kinda like a hound for this sort of bushcraft things. I remembered a few other trips we did together that literally was a wild goose chase. But the one in Endau Rompin was a bit special.
