Camping with Paul & JC; Part 1

On the trail with Paul

I recently went camping with Paul of Junglecrafty and JC. JC and myself have known Paul for many years. Probably a good 8 to 9 years old is our friendship. Somehow we got along well, and I dare to say we became good friends. Paul had a popular website ( no longer online) and Youtube channel. Quite a well known chap in the 'bushcraft' community. My old website Sepuhcrafts was still up and active as well during this time.

How we became friends

Back then it was all through websites. We had similar interest...camping, bushcraft, parangs etc. I was also running an outdoor gear shop  with all the bells and whistles available then. Age was on my side. I was active with MNS, MYCAT and camping was happening almost every alternate weekends. Then was when I met most camping kakis. JC and Paul amongst them.
One thing about Paul, while he had a solid online presence, he doesn't really like to be in the spotlight. I invited him on a few early trips and I can feel him feeling uncomfortable when people found out he was the 'Paul'. So, eventually, I only invited him on trips that consists of people we both know relatively well. That actually led us to even more adventures! We went on MYCAT trips, one night to multiple nights camping trip and even kayaking in Temenggor! Paul and JC are the two easiest going camping kakis I know and this recent trip was no exception.

Camping with Paul & JC at Lata Hammer

We have been on many camping trips together- thanks JC!

Some people call it Lata Hammer...some Lata Perting. It is located in Bentong, just about 1.5 hours drive from KL. Its kinda at the bottom of Genting Highlands. This is a super popular weekend spot for hikers and campers. We went on a weekday to avoid the crowd. The watrfall itself has not changed much. First time I visited this website, we literally have to slash some parts of the way to find our way. Then years later, 4WD started making their way in. The trail became a 'highway'. Hot as noon day to walk on the 'trail'. There is a point that I thought I would never come back to this waterfall cause of what the 4WD did. Surprisingly, during this walk, things have 'jungled' itself back a lot. This is such a happy thing for us.
Someone built this metal bride over the river

This metal bridge is new. Anyone intending to hike to Lata Hammer will need to cross a river. I suspect the two campsite/ holiday resort owners nearby built this in a bid to keep hikers off their land. Well, it really is a well built metal bridge and I personally am happy it is there. The hike in was pleasant. We also had a lot to talked about. Its been ages since both JC and myself have met Paul. A  lot of catching up to do. Updates, memories, recent events.

To be continued...
